Inhabits small, very shallow, clay-bottomed pools, vegetated with emergent grass tussocks. The pools are fed by artesian mound springs. Diurnal fluctuations in water temperature can be as great as 21?C. Tolerates temperatures between 3? and 39?C. Co-occurs with the Red-finned blue-eye Scaturiginichthys vermeilipinnis another endangered species (Ref. 44894).
