Biology
Dorsal spines (total): 9; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 7. Second dorsal fin elongated, reaching just short of last dorsal fin ray when depressed (in all stages, up to 50% SL, mean 42% SL, tip very easily broken). Orbit diameter relatively small (8-11% SL), ratio as % of snout length, 93-143. Head length relatively short, 30-33% of SL. Maxillary reaching to below or (rarely) just short of anterior margin of iris. Exposed maxillary process always tapering to a point anteriorly for about half its length. Supraneural bones 3 (Ref. 43141).
