Diagnosed from its congeners in Balkan Peninsula by having the following characters: anal fin with a black mark on anterior half, formed by pigments along edge of rays, membranes hyaline; head length about equal to body depth; mouth subinferior, upper lip conspicuously projecting beyond lower jaw; scales on lateral line 40-44 + 2-3; dorsal fin with 8? branched rays; anal fin with 8-9? branched rays; posterior margin of anal fin slightly convex; distance between tips of first and last branched anal rays (with fin stretched out) greater than depth of caudal peduncle; head length 24-27% SL; dorsal origin above posterior extremity of pelvic base; dorso-hypural distance reaching middle of eye when reported forward from dorsal origin (Ref. 59043).
