Indo-West Pacific: Mauritius (Ref. 33390) and Maldives (Ref. 4907) to southern Japan (Ref. 559) and Papua New Guinea (Ref. 6192). Katayama (1960) regarded Leptanthias kashiwae as a synonym of Pseudanthias taeniatus; however, Randall and McCosker (1982) reported that Anthias taeniatus appears to be a Red Sea endemic.
