Dorsal spines : 0; Dorsal soft rays : 0; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 0. WIth 62-73 trunk myomeres; trunk mottled in live ammocoetes older than 2.5 years. The caudal fin is dark grey to black in adults and ammocoetes older than 1.5 years. The shape of the caudal fin is spade-like.
