Biology
Inhabits slow-flowing streams or still, isolated pools in either clear or turbid conditions. Can tolerate marine conditions and temperatures well above 30? C. Can live in water where salinity levels twice that of sea water. An extremely hardy species capable of surviving hypersaline conditions and a wide temperature range. Its tolerance to salinity is much higher than that of most other fishes. The omnivorous diet includes small invertebrates and plant material (Ref. 44894).
