Also caught with drawnets. Observed mostly in the shallows. Found over sandy and vegetated areas as well as over rocky substrates. Feeds on fish like the Mbuna and sand-dwelling invertebrates (Ref. 5595). Larger specimens prefer deep main channels and permanent lagoons, whereas smaller fishes occur mainly in lagoons and secondary channels. Oviparous (Ref. 205). Breeds in summer, nesting along vegetated fringes of mainstreams (Ref. 7248).
